The almost magical nature of the Gastein Valley invites you to enjoy all kinds of excursions, of course in every season. If you don’t want to waggle down the slopes or chase down winding toboggan runs in winter, you are well advised to go for walks and hikes. While snowshoeing on the Graukogel, let yourself be enchanted by the ancient stone pine trees, and that even as part of a guided snowshoe hike!
Via the Zirbenweg on the Graukogel
Behind the Zirbenzauber, as this fascinating project at approx. 1950 m above sea level is also called, there is a special kind of experience. Here visitors learn interesting facts about the queen of alpine woods. Past the ancient pine trees with trees that are approaching the 400-year mark, there are many rest stops and one or the other vantage point along the way. The stone pine bed, the stone pine swing and the snack bench make this route, which can be completed in around 45 minutes, into a popular year-round destination for the whole family.
On your snowshoes, get set, go!
When snowshoeing on the Graukogel, you move directly on the Zirbenweg with only slight deviations. Although the path is hardly cleared in winter, it is easy to walk here with the appropriate equipment. You should bring a little bit of fitness, but the magnificent view over the entire Gastein Valley and the impressive giant trees with their snow tops are more than worth the effort. The tourist association also offers guided Zirbenzauber snowshoe hikes every Friday at 11 a.m. – more information can be found at www.gastein.com .
