Popular mountain bike and cycle paths in the Gastein Valley
The most exciting adventures on two wheels
A seemingly endless range of bike and mountain bike tours awaits you in the Gastein Valley. Right in the middle: The cozy 3-star Hotel Steindlwirt with a range of attractive offers and services for varied adventures on two wheels. Do you already know where you and your bike are going? Here are some of the most popular mountain bike and cycle routes in the Gastein Valley.
The ascent to the Kögerlalm is without question one of the most demanding MTB tours in the Gastein Valley and should primarily be tackled by experienced, persevering riders. From the center of Dorfgastein (alternatively: Untersberg district), it goes steadily uphill via goods trails to the Kögerlalm at 1,360 m. A mighty climb of 617 m has to be overcome – a real challenge that is rewarded with a great view over the whole valley.
About 1,000 meters of altitude and 17 km of paths lead from the heart of Dorfgastein to the Präau-Hochalm. Despite its not to be despised distance, the ascent remains mostly moderate. In five and a half hours it goes around the Dorfer Himmel, the Tagkopf and the Mooseckhöhe, until you finally reach the highest plateau in the region at 1,808 m. The stop-off point, including hearty refreshments, should of course not be missing before returning to the valley.
Fulseck ski mountain
When winter says goodbye to the region, one of the most popular MTB and cycle paths in the Gastein Valley opens its doors. As the name suggests, the tour leads to the Fulseck ski mountain in the middle of alpine terrain. The starting point of the MTB route is the lift car park for the Fulseck cable car. Via the Alpengasthof Hauserbauer it goes to the middle station with refreshment stops and finally via the new Kristallweg and the saddle to the summit. A total of 18.5 km and an altitude of 1,149 meters present even professionals with sweaty challenges.
Graukogel middle station
One of the most attractive bike paths in the Gastein Valley for mountain bikers begins in the south of Bad Gastein. Starting at the Raika branch in the Patschgsiedlung, it goes steadily uphill over approx. 400 m. In one hour the bike path leads via Windischgrätzhöhe and Schachengut directly to the MTB route to the middle station of the Graukogelbahn, difficulty medium – ideal for slightly advanced bikers who want to explore other highlights around the mighty Pongau Almenweg for hikers.
This bike tour through Gastein with approx. 500 hm looks quite tricky at first glance, but shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge. The starting point is the tourism association at Mozartplatz in Bad Gastein, then you cycle over the Kötschachtalstraße and the Himmelwandhütte over undulating terrain. The last section into the Prossau is ideal for prospective mountain bikers.
