The history of Steindlwirt ...
The “Steindlkramer” is, along with the gothic Rupertus church, one of the oldest buildings in the village. The first building may originate from the 14th century!
In the 16th century the hotel lost the right to brew but also gained the right to manage a shop which even up to 1934/35 was housed in today’s “Kramerstüberl” (parlour).
From 1637 onwards the “Staindl” are mentioned in documents as hosts and shopkeepers. In 1836 the Rieser family, one of the oldest families in the Gastein valley took over possession.
Today’s old part of the building, recognisable from the characteristic tuff stone walls, was built in 1840.
